Amputee Running and Mobility Clinic

Join us for an Amputee Running & Intro to Mobility Clinic at Messiah University in Mechanicsburg on Sunday, March 8th from 9:00 AM–12:00 PM, presented by Ability Ottobock.care Prosthetics and Orthotics. This welcoming, hands-on clinic is designed for individuals with limb loss who are curious about running, building confidence in the gym, and improving everyday mobility. No prior running or fitness experience required.

Participants will have the opportunity to explore new prosthetic and adaptive technology, learn the fundamentals of amputee running gait, and gain practical strategies for navigating the gym and modifying exercises to meet their needs. This event is an extension of our Unified 5K initiative, continuing our mission to make fitness and physical activity accessible, inclusive, and empowering for individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities.

Meet the Coach

Sam Schaefer is a fitness professional, Air Force veteran, and below-the-knee amputee whose personal journey from debilitating pain to athletic achievement drives his passion for helping people reclaim their lives through movement.

Sam joined the Air Force in 2010 and was involved in a training accident that broke his ankle and fibula, and ultimately led to nine years living with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), a condition that caused unrelenting nerve pain. In 2020, he made the courageous decision to elect amputation, a choice that gave him his life back.

Since then, Sam has embraced movement both personally and professionally. He trains client both in-person and remotely, educates other professionals on adaptive fitness, and competes in boxing, highland games, and ultrarunning.
